about the shirts

as a teenager, I went through hardships that made it difficult to love myself and love others. thankfully, I had difference makers in my life who pulled me out of these situations and made me come to the realization that I was not the only one struggling. I knew I had to find a way to help others who were struggling too. I knew I couldn't change the world, but like the girl in the starfish story, I knew I could make a difference in someone's world if I did what I would do if I wasn't afraid.
my junior and senior years in high school I was given opportunities to travel to Ecuador for missions and service trips with my church. the second time I went, I needed a way to fund my trip, and I decided to make something that I called "difference maker shirts"—simple t-shirts with the words, "difference maker," to show that anyone and everyone could make a difference. Over 100 shirts were sold to difference makers across the state. In turn, I and my home church were able to help my friends in Ecuador make a difference by building a food pantry, installing playground equipment, and renovating buildings to serve as a community center and church in Pinsaqui, Ecuador.
as a high school student, I had no idea how I was going to pay for college. I am a first-generation student responsible for paying for my education, so I worked my booty off applying for scholarships. thanks to my hard work and the grace of God, I received enough scholarships to pay for my college tuition, fees, and housing expenses for all four years of school. so, last fall, I decided to give back in the same way that many scholarship donors gave back to me. I came up with the idea of selling secondhand shirts and sweatshirts with the same words, "difference maker," printed across the front. I was afraid: what if I failed? but I did it anyway. I sold almost 200 short sleeve tees, long sleeve tees, and sweatshirts to difference makers across the country. then, I used to profits to award a scholarship to a high school student difference maker!
now available in TWO designs, each lil bit of my closet tee and sweatshirt is one-of-a-kind, with each one unique and different. each shirt is secondhand, meaning it was saved from the landfill and is getting a new life in your closet. they are made for everyone, with sizes available in sizes S-5XL. the best part? the profits from these shirts will be given as another higher-education scholarship to another high school student who has made a difference!
